Migldi Magldi (Welsh)
Up until around the 1950s one of the most popular meeting places in the villages of Wales was the Smithy. It was there that people would gather for warmth, debate and merriment. Its joys are celebrated in the verse of this Welsh folksong. The second verse was written by Gwyneth Glyn in response to the similar jovial atmosphere shared on the Oran Bagraidh residency in Balmaclellan, the Old Welsh name for which is Trercarcow.

It is said that this song was written by a frustrated grandparent who was set to mind two mischievious children who hid in the scrub of a lower field. The old gent called out in vain to the hiding children, Micil nd Máire, and then warned them that he would send them up to a strict neighbour, Sadhbh Seán, who would place a small spancil on them to stop their wandering mischief.

Puirt à beul means ‘tune from the mouth’ or ‘mouth music’. Often used for dancing, rhythm and melody are more important in these songs than a linear storyline and the words are often bawdy or fun.

Surprisingly laid back EP given the cover art, but still some fine traditional music from the band. You can't go far wrong with Dàimh. (Eagerly awaiting the bandana!) Oynque
